Why Port Royal? The Story Behind the Stoke

Every good adventure starts with a crew — and ours began like most salt-soaked stories do: a couple of friends who spend more time on, in, or under the water than anywhere else. We’re lifelong surfers, divers, kite boarders, fishermen, and general ocean addicts. No matter what our day jobs are or where our careers have taken us, we all have one thing in common: the ocean is home.

And like most ocean people, we’re picky about our gear. There’s plenty of apparel and accessories out there… but none of it felt exactly like us. None of it leaned into the fun, the cheese, the pirate-era mischief, or the “don’t take life too seriously” attitude that we live by.

So we did what any pirate crew would do — we made our own.

Built for the Ones Who Don’t Take Themselves Too Seriously

Port Royal Supply Co. was born from the idea that surf and ocean culture doesn’t need to be overly polished, overly serious, or overly corporate. We wanted gear that made us stoked to wear it — not because it was trying too hard, but because it felt like the lifestyle we actually live:

• Sunrise surf sessions

• Tacos after long days

• Beers on the dock at sunset

• Friends huddled around a bonfire still covered in salt

• Inside jokes, cheesy slogans, and not taking anything too seriously

We created Port Royal for people who chase fun first. People who like their gear with personality. People who appreciate a little chaos, a little adventure, and a whole lot of ocean.

So… Why the Name Port Royal?

Because the ocean has always had a rebellious side — and so have we.

Port Royal, Jamaica in the late 1600s was legendary. The “Wickedest City on Earth.” A rowdy, bustling harbor full of pirates, explorers, sailors, misfits, and adventurers from every corner of the world. It was a place built on risk, reward, and the wild freedom of the sea.

It wasn’t perfect. It wasn’t polished.
But it was alive — electric with possibility.

And that’s exactly the energy we wanted behind our brand:

• A nod to sea-faring history

• A wink at pirate-era mischief

• A celebration of those who live for adventure

• A reminder to enjoy the ride and Drown Ordinary

The legend of the original Port Royal fits us perfectly — a little gritty, a little chaotic, and absolutely fueled by the ocean.
